DARAGA, Albay – Albay governor Joey Salceda has sworn in the newly elected municipal officials of Daraga headed by mayor Gerry Jaucian, Saturday, June 26 at the Ninoy Aquino Park.
“Despite small resources and Internal Revenue Allotment share (IRA) this town is gaining progress because of political unity and there is no doubt to for the new administration to continues the progress and make the municipality into a city,” according to governor Salceda.
He urged the newly elected leaders as well as barangay officials here to give priority on education and health programs. “Education and health programs must have bigger fund.”
On education, municipal and barangay should prioritize education especially in improving the National Achievement Test for high school.
According to Salceda the provincial and municipal governments will work jointly to qualify for the establishment of College and University. “To make sure that education is for all, the provincial government will shoulder the tuition fee of every student and the municipal government of Albay will take care of the incidentals.”
In terms of health he urged local leaders to address the maternal and child mortality rate, spread of dengue, and other related diseases. “We will assure that every Darageños must be a PhilHealth member.”
Salceda also announced the establishment of a secondary hospital. “This will be a joint venture between the two local government units.”
The secondary hospital will cater to both residents of rural and urban communities here.
On housing program, the resettlement site of Daraga still needs 3000 units of houses for the families dislocated by previous typhoons and eruption of Mayon volcano.
“We requested the United Nations Development Programme the amount of P400 million for the construction of housing units in the resettlement site and the remaining amount will be shouldered by the provincial government of Albay,” Salceda added.
In terms of tourism industry in this municipality, the governor also stated that another joint venture between the two LGUs is the creation of Cagsawa Tourism State. “This is to improve tourism industry in the province increase tourist arrivals and receipts.”
During the same occasion, Salceda has authorized re-elected board member and chairman committee on appropriation to prepare the budget for the development of Cagsawa Tourism State/Center.
Salceda also added that in 2012 the province of Albay will host the Palarong Pambansa.
On the other hand, newly elected mayor Gerry Jaucian assured his constituents for a good governance with a strong participation of all sectors. “I accept the challenge for the next three years to achieve progress and convert this town into a city.”
