NAGA CITY – Newly-installed Naga Mayor John G. Bongat immediately buckled down to work on his first day in office as the city’s 8th chief executive by launching the city government’s latest promotion campaign dubbed “Naga SMILES to the World.”
Bongat, who won a landslide victory in the May 10 polls, presented the “Naga SMILES to the World” promotions campaign to members of the media on July 1 at his office in the Naga City Hall.
Bongat said Naga SMILES aims to promote the city as a education, tourism, and economic hub. It is also expected to draw in people who want to live in Naga. SMILES stands for “See Naga”, “Meet in Naga”, “Invest in Naga”, “Live in Naga”, “Experience Naga,” and “Study in Naga”.
The city mayor explained that “See Naga” pertains to tourism that is expected to transform the city into a major destination and not just a jump-off point. “Meet in Naga,” on the other hand, refers to Naga becoming the country’s “Convention City” because of modern function halls and convention centers as well as the nearly-completed Metro Naga Coliseum that could accommodate up to 10,000 people.
“Invest in Naga” is geared towards attracting investors to the city and help create job opportunities for Metro Naga’s workforce. “Live in Naga” refers to Naga as one of the most liveable cities in Asia and banks on the city’s environs as a perfect place to raise families.
“Experience Naga”, on the other hand, refers to the city government’s best practices and innovative policies on transparency, accountability, and good governance. Finally, “Study in Naga” presents Naga as a “University City” and a major education center in the country.
Bongat tasked Huberto Ursua, head of the i-Governance team, to undertake the overhaul of the city government’s official website by incorporating the thrusts of the new promotions program.
