With just a few more weeks left before the actual holding of the biggest international marathon event in the country, the provincial government of Camarines Sur under the leadership of Governor LRay Villafuerte, has intensified efforts in the promotion to generate the bigger participation of the locals.
With “The Race to Rebuild the Nation” as the adopted theme, the international marathon event, dubbed Summit Water CamSur Marathon, is expected to gather more than 20,000 participants both locals and foreigners with the end in view of bringing greater benefits to its beneficiary organizations.
The marathon which is slated to kick off at the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex (CWC) on Sept. 26, 2010 will be staged in categories of 3K, 5K, 10K, 21K, and 42K including the Bayanihan Run.
The proceeds of the marathon will be for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga’s shelter program, the KIDS Foundation, which is focused on uplifting the welfare of the youth and the Organ Donor Card, which the governor is actively supporting.
Intensifying its promotions, various groups, organizations and sectors are being tapped by the organizers to assure wider support for this noble undertaking.
A special discount of P100 pesos will be given to all students who will register and participate in the marathon. The registration fee will entitle the participant to a commemorative running shirt, a singlet, a race bib number and the electronic timing chip.
Meanwhile, Villafuerte has encouraged the participation of provincial government employees in the race to set an example for other groups in the province to follow. – Fernandez
