PILI, Camarines Sur —With the just concluded Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines still fresh in everyone’s mind, the provincial government of Camarines Sur is once again gearing up for another blockbuster international sports event, the Summit Water CamSur Marathon 2010 slated on Sept. 26 this year.
The international event is another initiative of Governor LRay Villafuerte in his continuing efforts to further ignite the tourism industry in the province.
CamSur was voted as the number one tourist destination in the country in 2009.
The CamSur Marathon is centered at the sprawling provincial capitol complex where the best cable park of the world, the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC) is located.
With “Race to Rebuild the Nation” as theme, the proceeds from the marathon will benefit the shelter program of Gawad Kalinga, the Organ Donor Card awareness drive and the KIDS Foundation.
The marathon event has six categories; 3 Km, 5 Km, 10 Km, 21 Km and the 42 Km runs including the Bayanihan Run of Gawad Kalinga.
The Bayanihan Run will feature participating groups who will race as a team of 15 and will commit to pledge to raise funds to build GK communities for the poorest of the poor.
To date, top marathon runners from Africa and European countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, Ukraine and Russia have already confirmed participation in the 42 Km category.
The CamSur Tri Team, mostly products of the Camarines Sur Sports Academy, a provincial government managed special school which intends to hone globally competitive athletes is also joining the race. The tri Team figured prominently in the just concluded 2nd Edition of the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines.
