PILI, Camarines Sur —  As Vice Governor Fortunato “Ato” Peña’s starting gun marks the start of the three-kilometer run during Gov. LRay Villafuerte’s first-ever CamSur Marathon, 100 percent of the employees and staff of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of the province joined in to mark the biggest international marathon in the Philippines held here, Sept. 26.

Bringing tourism and sports together in one go, the large enthusiastic crowd took off with a smile on each face in the short 3K category, which served as the acid test for the bush leaguers.

Board members and the vice governor himself led the pack as the crowd scampered towards the race course in a fanfare of cheers and jovial gasping, tagging along some of their family members and friends to make the historic marathon an event to remember.

“This is an all-new experience for most of us in the Legislative Department,” said SP employee Joannah Sarte.  “But we all would like to take part in Gov. LRay Villafuerte’s landmark sports activities that have transformed CamSur into the extreme sports capital of the country,” she said.  Sarte added, “We wanted to be part of history as it unfolded.”

The province has seen another milestone within its bounds with Gov. LRay Villafuerte’s smashing success in hosting the biggest world-class international marathon gathered over 17,400 athletes from all around the world that fortifies CamSur’s status as the top tourist destination in the country.
