DAET, Camarines Norte — This town will play host to the First Regional Conference on Sisterhood and Town Twinning at the Casa Ilustrado here on Oct. 28 to 30, 2010.
Daet Mayor Tito Sarion said the conference aims to promote sisterhood and town twinning concept to local government units (LGU) in Bicol region in order to establish a mechanism for sustainable and far reaching cooperation between and among LGUs, and establish an organization of sister towns and to share best practices in governance.
Town twinning or city sisterhood is an agreement between towns or cities in geographically distinct and adjacent areas to promote cultural and commercial ties.
Sarion said DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo will be the keynote speaker during the conference opening program on Oct. 28.
Annabelle Tangson, Philippine International Sisterhood and Twinning Association, Inc. (PHISTA) president is also slated to discuss “Sisterhood and Town Twinning: Its History and Importance of Governance.”
During the conference proper on Oct. 29, a panel of speakers composed of Mayor Roque S. Verzosa Jr., of Tagudin, Ilocos Norte and Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda, councilor of Baguio City, both of whom are PHISTA board members, will facilitate the sharing workshop.
Mayor Ruth Uy Asmundson of Davis City, California is also scheduled to speak on the topic “Internationsal Cities Cooperation,” while Willy Arcilla, a marketing expert, will discuss on “Marketing Your Town.”
Participants to the conference are city and town chief executives and officials.
