DSWD Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Juliano Soliman was in Naga City for two important activities, bringing a program that will work for the upliftment of the active poor Bicolanos.
The two major activities were held in the morning of Sept. 23 wherein the first part was the conduct of validation of the 498 4Ps beneficiaries who for the first time will receive their cash grant through over the counter payment at the Land Bank of the Philippines, Naga City Branch.
This was held at the Naga City Gymnasium, Civic Center, Naga City. From the 498 beneficiaries, 272 are from Barangay Pacol and the 226 are from Barangay Balatas. Naga City has 1,383 recipients of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
4Ps or the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is a poverty reduction program of the national government, which focuses on human capital investment to the poorest of the poor households in the country. It allots cash grant to poor households based on the compliance with verifiable conditions identified and agreed by the family beneficiaries.
Naga City Mayor John Bongat in his message said that he sees 4Ps as an effective ally of his administration in providing the less-fortunate Naguenos opportunities to help alleviate their plight.
From the Naga City Gymnasium, Soliman proceeded to Regent Hotel also in Naga City for the launch of PODER 6 or the Poder Y Prosperidad dela Comunidad.
She was joined by His Excellency Luis Arias Romero the Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines, Camarines Sur Governor Luis Raymond Villafuerte , AECID National Coordinator Norberto Gomez, Director Remia Tapispisan and Assistant Regional Director Evelyn Lontok.
PODER 6 is also one of the government’s program that aims to empower and develop communities thru the construction of educational and health facilities in partnership with the Local Government Units and the DSWD. PODER projects is funded by the Agencia Espanola dela Cooperacion Internacional Para El Desarollo (AECID), an Spanish Development Agency.
PODER 6 will be implemented in the towns of Paracale and Sta Elena in Camarines Norte and in Presentacion and Minalabac towns in Camarines Sur.
Soliman expressed her gratitude to the Spanish government for the funding support given to the Philippine government to sustain economic development, improve the lives of the poor and the vulnerable citizenry of the country which is geared towards achieving the Millenium Development Goals.
She also mentioned the thrust of the department which is the complementation and convergence of the KC:KKB/PODER,SEA – k and the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. This aims to maximize resources, reduce duplications, strategic focus in reducing poverty and impact of development interventions.
Present during the launch were the mayors and other local officials of the four PODER 6 municipalities.
From Naga City, Soliman with Director Tapispisan and other DSWD officials proceeded to the province of Albay where she visited the Reception and Study Center for Children and the HAVEN for Abused Women and Children at the DSWD, Complex in Ligao City.
She also led the inauguration and blessing of a UNICEF funded Day Care Center at Barangay Buraguis, Legazpi City. She also had a meeting with he Field Office staff, meet with the members of the local press and her colleagues from the NGOs. – Evelyn E. Jerusalem.
