TINAMBAC, CAMARINES SUR. Vice Governor Fortunato “Ato” Peña led the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) employees to the barren mountainous portions of the municipality of Tinambac to jumpstart Gov. LRay Villafuerte’s 10 Million Trees program that aims to preserve the forests in CamSur and address the concerns in climate change as a major component of a new environmental strategy of the provincial government, October 7, here.
The large group of SP employees took to the target location early during the day to maximize the use of their resources amidst the wet weather conditions and trekked on the muddy foot paths to the tree planting site where they were greeted with some officials of the local government of Tinambac, as well as members of the Philippine National Police who also participated in the activity.
Board member Rosito “Itoy” Velarde, a native of the said municipality celebrated his birthday during the activity and stated that the noble program is one way of showing the SP’s strong commitment to the preservation of the environment.
The activity forms part of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s comprehensive environment program and is geared at spearheading initiatives to address issues regarding climate change and tackle concerns of the constituents on matters pertaining to deforestation and global environmental issues, in line with Vice Governor Fortunato “Ato” Peña’s advocacy of promoting Christian Innovative Leadership in the province.
