AKB, Rotary Club ink pact to help kids with birth defects

The Rotary Club of Paranaque, the Rotary Club of Legaspi West and the Ako Bicol Party List (AKB) signed a memorandum of agreement to sponsor the medical operations of children who are afflicted with particular birth defects.

The agreement, which was signed on Oct. 23, 2010, commits AKB to participate in the Rotary Club’s projects involving indigent children no more than 25 years old who are suffering from neural tube defects such as hydrocephalus, and cleft lip and palate, rectal defects or other similar birth defects.

AKB’s  participation includes referring such patients to the Rotary Club’s duly accredited hospitals for operation and treatment, while the latter will sponsor the cost of the required operation and treatment.

For hydrocephalus patients, the Rotary Club shall provide free peritoneal shunt plus P6,000 in actual expenses, and for other afflictions covered by this project, a maximum of P 15,000 per patient. AKB shall also shoulder the expenses incurred in the transportation of the patient to the duly accredited hospitals.
