The 15th National Press Congress under the auspices of the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) will be held on Dec. 5 to 7, 2010 at the world famous Dakak Park and Beach Resort in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, in cooperation with the city government of Dapitan.
Then a rural village, Dapitan was where the Spanish colonial authorities exiled Philippine national hero Jose Rizal in the 1890’s for his advocacy of Filipino’s equity rights and civil treatment by their colonial masters.
PAPI President Juan P. Dayang said the 15th National Press Congress will underscore the strategic role media play in climate change adaptation (CCA), disaster risk reduction (DRR) and tourism promotion and development.
The press congress is an annual media event mandated by Presidential Proclamation 1187 declaring December each year as “National Press Congress Month and the Month of the Community Press in the Service of the Nation.”
The same edict calls on all private and state agencies concerned to give the celebration their unqualified supports and designates PAPI as the spearhead organization for the observance.
Expected to participate as usual in this year’s national press congress are media executives, publishers, editors, reporters, broadcasters, public affairs and public information officers, campus journalists and their faculty advisers, and other personalities engaged in mass communication.
