NAGA CITY — It was not just Manny Pacquaio and Antonio Margarito who were on a fight Sunday ( Nov. 14) afternoon.
In Brgy. Tambo, Pamplona, Camarines Sur, around 1:30 p.m., on Sunday a heated battle between the authorities there and seven armed men also broke up resulting to the death of two of the seven suspects.
According to SPO4 Romy Fabiano, spokesperson of Camarines Sur Provincial Police Office, joint forces of Philippine National Police and National Bureau of Investigation in Camarines Sur were in a pursuit operation to capture the seven armed men when the firefight erupted in Pamplona leading to the death of two suspects.
Fabiano identifed the casualties as Roberto Nazareth and Raymond Namadrid.
Police reports say that the armed group earlier robbed a comprada (a shop buying and selling rice and copra) in Tigaon town.
Fabiano said the victim, identified as Joy Sanoy, immediately called and alerted the police after the group escaped.
In a statement, Sanoy said that around 9 a.m. Sunday, when she was manning the MS Cervantez Comprada in Tigaon town, the suspects forcefully entered the store, pointed a gun at her and took away P300,000 in cash, a laptop, a portable TV and one unit of cellphone.
Fabiano said police authorities, led by P/Supt. Rizalde Ricierdo, successfully catched up with the suspects in a village in Pamplona but the group fired at cops resulting to the bloody firefight.
The police also recovered a machine gun, one KG9 with 9mm magazine, a handful of hand grenades, the laptop and cellphone stolen from Sanoy.
The portable TV and P 300,000 cash, however, were not found and the other five suspects successfully escaped and remained at large as of press time.
Police authorities here already launched a hot pursuit operation to capture the rest of the robbers.
