560 newly elected Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials were sworn into office last Saturday, November 27, 2010 with no less than Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jessie M. Robredo as Guest of Honor at the posh Iriga City Convention Center.
Mayor Madel expressed her gratitude to the controversial cabinet official for gracing the occasion despite Robredo’s very hectic schedule as DILG head honcho. Secretary Robredo, in turn, thanked the mayor and the people of Iriga for inviting him as he also congratulated them for successfully passing 11 out of 11 measurements in the Local Governance Performance Management System (LGPMS), a web-based system which helps LGUs determine their capabilities and limitations in the delivery of essential public services.
Robredo also revealed that Iriga City’s excellent performance in the LGPMS will also result in numerous grants from agencies that use the system as their basis for who is qualified for certain grants.
The DILG secretary encouraged the newly installed officials, especially the SK officials, who will officially assume office on December 1, 2010, to ignore party lines and work together for the good of the constituents. – Chin Pineda
