Thirty-one or over 88% of the 35 town mayors composing the provincial chapter of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines who attended the conference at the Villa Caceres Hotel in Naga City Tuesday, Dec. 14, declared their full support behind Governor LRay Villafuerte’s programs.

More than just a solid declaration of support to the present provincial administration, the mayors at the initiative LMP CamSur president and Buhi Mayor Rey Lacoste also declared via a formal resolution that they will back any future political aspiration of the governor.

Villafuerte who is now on his third and final term has risen to national if not international prominence in the area of tourism promotion in particular, and in exemplary local governance in general, is among the burgeoning political figures being seriously eyed to run as senator in the next elections.

Villafuerte, a multi-awarded entrepreneur in the private sector before he joined public service in 2004, has transformed CamSur into a world-class province.

CamSur is now conceded the most visited destination in the Philippines, eclipsing established traditional tourism sites like Boracay, Cebu, Subic, Bohol and Davao, as well as a favorite center of international extreme sports.

Tourism and sports form part of a comprehensive development program under his unique but effective entrepreneurial-oriented brand of local governance that has transformed the province from an obscure and depressed area in one of the ten richest provinces in the nation in terms of assets and net income. –GBClaveria
