A total of 1,500 families from Legazpi City, Tabaco City and Juban, Sorsogon receive bags of blessings from Metrobank Foundation in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the local government units last Feb. 5, 2011.
One of the branch managers of Metrobank, Celeste Lasala, said that this activity was conceptualized by Metrobank Chairman George Ty as well as their way of celebrating the Chinese New Year. A total of P10,000,000 was allotted for this activity with 10,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
DSWD Regional Director Remia Tapispisan personally witnessed the turn-over of bags to the 500 beneficiaries of Juban, Sorsogon. Tapispisan explained that the beneficiaries were victims of the recent floodings brought about by the tail-end of cold front (TECF).
On the other hand, Albay Governor Joey Salceda was present during the distribution of bags of blessings to 1,000 beneficiaries in Legazpi City while Vice-Mayor Reynaldo Bragais of Tabaco City and Mayor Jimmy Fragata of Juban, Sorsogon witnessed during the distribution in their respective areas.
Each bag of blessings is worth P1,000. It contains 10 kilos of rice, 1 liter cooking oil, 3 pieces chicken noodle, 2 pieces pancit canton, 1 kilo sugar, 3 cans sardines, 3 cans corned beef, 3 cans pork and beans, 1 can condensed milk, 1 pack coffee and 1 pack oishi products.
Other areas covered were: Manila, Pasay, Makati, Taguig, Marikina, Quezon City, Benguet, Pampanga, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Iloillo, Misamis Occidental, Davao and Agusan del Norte.
