SAN JOSE, Camarines Sur – More than 1,400 pupils of the San Jose Central School (SJCS) happily received their free school uniforms given to them by this town’s local government unit (LGU) under the leadership of Mayor Antonio B. Chavez, last Monday (February 28, 2011), here.
Mayor Chavez, assisted by members of the Sangguniang Bayan, teachers of SJCS and his staff, personally distributed one set of uniform to each schoolchildren consisting of one pair of shoes, one short pant (for boys) or one skirt (for girls) each and one schoolbag.
Before distributing the items, the Mayor announced that his administration is committed to fulfill his promise to give all public elementary school pupils within the municipality of San Jose one complete set of uniform because it is part of his top priority project under his education enhancement program.
He said that after the Central School children have their set of uniforms, other pupils of public elementary schools in San Jose will follow soon until all of them have their share of uniforms from the San Jose LGU.
The San Jose LGU is the first ever local unit to give free uniforms to schoolchildren either in this province or in other parts of the Bicol Region, several teachers and parents witnessing the occasion exclaimed.
Because of his ardent desire to give his constituents easy access to education, the local government unit under Mayor Chavez is financing the scholarship of 542 high school and 273 college students in this town and other institutions of learning in the province.
On different occasions, Mayor Chavez also revealed his plan to give due honor and recognition to parents of graduating pupils in public elementary schools inside San Jose this school year. He explained that the ”Search for most Outstanding Parents” is now going on for which it will give out citations and/or plaque of appreciation (to those found deserving) during the graduation exercises, as well as Certificates of Scholarship to their graduating child/children.
He said that this project will give incentives for parents to send their children to school and for students to study hard and finish their courses for their own good and for the country. -EDSEL SALVO
