DPWH runners to build classrooms

“Naka-exercise ka na, nakatulong ka pa”, said Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region V Regional Director Danilo Dequito, during the fundraiser run spearheaded by the Ninoy and Cory Foundation (NCAF) to commemorate the 1986 People Power Revolution and likewise to help build 25,000 classrooms nationwide.

Bicol Region, which is one of the 10 areas in the country that participated in the Edsa Run outside Metro Manila, held the 3 and 5-kilometer race in Penaranda Park, Old Albay District to Embarcadero, Legazpi City.  The simultaneous activity started at 5:30 in the morning of February 27, 2011, Sunday.

310 employees from DPWH Regional Office and Albay District Engineering Offices joined the People Power Run.  They also shelled out cash donations for the proposed classrooms.

“DPWH is one of the government agencies that unceasingly supported our programs and activities,” said Dr. Ofelia M. Samar, President of Pinoy Power Bicol Coalition of Volunteers (PPBCV).  The brain behind the success of the Bicol Fun Run that drawn an estimated 10,000 participants.  “In fact, Dir. Dequito chaired the Finish Line Committee,” she added.

“Yes we build roads, bridges and other infrastructure facilities through our people’s taxes, but this is different.  This is a personal commitment outside our official functions.  Being part of a benevolent mission, is a priceless achievement,” concluded RD Dequito.
